Getting your business to stand out in a local market may seem like a lot of work, but there are many ways that you can get your name out there and start forming connections with potential customers. Once you have established your business in a local community, the next step is to grow your customer base. Here are some easy ways to do just that.

  • Be online, everywhere
Where’s the first place people go these days to solve their problems and fulfill their needs? The internet.

Make sure that you have an active Google local business listing, a Facebook page, and any other site that offers local profiles for your industry. The more your name pops up in peoples’ searches, the more credible your company will seem. Not to mention, you’re being exposed to many many more potential customers!

  • Put a face to the company
In a local community, your business will stand out if you put a face to the company or product that you sell. Most people trust companies more when they know who’s behind them. Get out into the community and introduce yourself to those you meet! The closer they feel to you, the higher the chances that they do business with you.
  • Give away samples
In a small market, if you can, try giving out free samples of your product or even free trials for the services you provide (like a free first time yoga class). It’s a small gesture, but it goes a long way and resonates with your crowd. You can get your name out there and build a positive reputation for your company, while customers get something for free. It’s a win win!
  • Volunteer in the community
Another way to get noticed in the community is by volunteering. By showing support for causes that matter, people will begin to notice. If you volunteer to clean up a park or help with a local food drive, you can create a positive image for your brand, and can teach people more about your business in the process.
  • Send out flyers and buy local ad space
A great way to gain the spotlight is by creating flyers or newsletters, and placing them in restaurants, coffee shops, or any other other popular places around town. Ad spaces are great for getting your name out there and increasing traffic to your business. When people are exposed to your business, they may be more inclined to learn more about what you can offer them.

More and more people are realizing the importance of shopping locally. They want to support local businesses, so the hardest part is just leading them to your front door. Although some of these tips might seem old school, they’re still pretty effective. So, follow some of these ideas for increasing local traffic to your business, and let us know if they work for you!
