Online Reviews: 3 Things to Consider

When it comes to your online reviews there is more to consider than just your star rating. We break down the 3 factors that go into why a potential customer might choose your business and how you can improve your ranking.

Let’s face it, most people are going to check your business out online and compare you to competitors. You need to have a strong online reputation.

Rating

Ok, let’s start with the obvious one. Your rating is the first thing that will jump out to a potential customer. You really need at least 4 stars to be in consideration nowadays. I would suggest doing a Google search for your products and services. Take an honest look at yourself compared to your competitors. Who has the better rating?

What You Can Do

So, what can you do? The best piece of advice I have to business owners is to not hide from reviews and to take the feedback seriously. It is easy to dismiss the reviewer as “difficult.” We get it. You are emotionally invested in your business and sometimes it is hard to take an objective look at things. Luckily, our reputation management software can help you with that. It compiles all your reviews and captures common words or phrases that are used in both positive and negative reviews. Maybe “customer service” is a common phrase that comes up in negative reviews. It is an easy indication that customer service needs your attention.

Volume

How many reviews do you have in total? A great rating may be the first thing someone looks at but the amount of reviews you have is the second. If you have 30 reviews but your competitor has 100 reviews and the rating is roughly the same then your competitor may get the edge.

What You Can Do

Ask! We come across many businesses who never ask for reviews. You will be amazed how willing someone would be to give you a review if you just ask. The biggest issue we hear is that it’s time consuming. Owners / Managers are often doing a hundred things in their business and they just forget to ask for reviews or don’t feel comfortable doing it. Review software like ours can completely automate that. If you have a way to collect email addresses from customers you can simply upload the email addresses and our software will send an email on behalf of your business with links to your review sites. It doesn’t get any more simple than that.

Frequency

The third thing a potential customer is going to consider is how frequently you are receiving reviews. Do you have gaps of months or even years between reviews? This can be a red flag for potential customers.

What You Can Do

Just like the issue above when it comes to volume, you need to get a steady stream of reviews coming in. As we mentioned, by using review software that automates this process you can essentially sit back and watch as the reviews come in for your business and your ranking rises.
